Silicon Metal is commonly known as metallurgical grade silicon or metallic silicon because of its shiny metallic colour. In industry it is mainly used as an alumnium alloy or a semiconductor material. Silicon metal is also used in the chemical industry to produce siloxanes and silicones. It is considered to be a strategic raw material in many regions of the world. The economic and application significance of silicon metal on a global scale continues to grow. Part of the market demand for this raw material is met by a producer and distributor of silicon metal – UrbanMines.

General characteristics of silicon metal

Silicon metal is also known as metallurgical silicon or, most commonly, simply as silicon. Silicon itself is the eighth most abundant element in the universe, but it is rarely found in pure form on Earth. The US Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) has given it the CAS number 7440-21-3. Silicon metal in its pure form is a grey, lustrous, metalloidal element with no odour. Its melting point and boiling point are very high. Metallic silicon starts melting at about 1,410°C. The boiling point is even higher and amounts to about 2,355°C. The water solubility of silicon metal is so low that it is considered to be insoluble in practice.

What is Silicon Metal used for?

Silicon Metal is usually used as employed in the chemicals industry for the manufacture of siloxanes and silicones. Silicon metal can also be used as essential material in the electronics and solar industries (silicon chips, semi-conductors, solar panels). It can also improve the already useful properties of aluminum such as castability, hardness and strength. Adding silicon metal to aluminium alloys makes them light and strong. So, they are increasingly used in the automotive industry. Used to replace heavier cast iron parts. Automotive parts such as engine blocks and tire rims are the most common cast aluminum silicon parts.

The application of Silicon Metal can be generalized as below:

● aluminium alloyant (e.g. high-strength aluminum alloys for the automotive industry).

● manufacture of siloxanes and silicones.

● primary input material in the manufacture of photovoltaic modules.

● production of electronic grade silicon.

● production of synthetic amorphous silica.

● other industrial applications.

Silicon Metal Aluminum Oxide Nanoparticles/Nanopowder 1344-28-1
Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) is a white or nearly colourless crystalline substance, and a chemical compound of aluminum and oxygen. It is made from bauxite and commonly called alumina and may also be called aloxide, aloxite, or alundum depending on particular forms or applications. Al2O3 is significant in its use to produce aluminum metal, as an abrasive owing to its hardness, and as a refractory material owing to its high melting point.

Silicon Metal Boron Carbide(B4C) Powder 12069-32-8
Boron Carbide (B4C), also known as black diamond, with a Vickers hardness of >30 GPa, is the third hardest material after diamond and cubic boron nitride. Boron carbide has high cross section for absorption of neutrons (i.e. good shielding properties against neutrons), stability to ionizing radiation and most chemicals. It is a suitable material for many high performance applications due to its attractive combination of properties. Its outstanding hardness makes it a suitable abrasive powder for lapping, polishing and water jet cutting of metals and ceramics. Boron Carbide is an essential material with lightweight and great mechanical strength. UrbanMines’ products have high purity and competitive prices. We also has much experience in supplying a range of B4C products. Hope we can offer helpful advice and give you a better understanding of boron carbide and its various uses.

Silicon Metal Low Oxygen Niobium Powder 3N5 7440-03-1
Niobium Powder (CAS No. 7440-03-1) is light grey with a high melting point and anti-corrosion. It takes on a bluish tint when exposed to air at room temperatures for extended periods. Niobium is a rare, soft, malleable, ductile, gray-white metal. It has a body-centered cubic crystalline structure and in its physical and chemical properties it resembles tantalum. The metal’s oxidation in air commences at 200°C. Niobium, when used in alloying, improves strength. Its superconductive properties are enhanced when combined with zirconium. Niobium micron powder finds itself in various applications such as electronics, alloy-making, and medical due to its desirable chemical, electrical, and mechanical properties.
